ROBERT J. BIGGANE
A resident of Stuart, FL, died Thursday. A native of County Cork, Ireland, Mr. Biggane emigrated to the United States with his parents, a brother and sister, the late Michael and Aileen (Boyle) at age eight. The family settled in Buffalo and Robert attended Bennett High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1941 and served in the South Pacific as an aerial navigator in World War II. He completed several missions in the Solomon Islands area and his unit received special commendations for aiding in the capture and defense of Guadalcanal. Following the war, he attended Miami (Ohio) University and later transferred to the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, from which he was graduated in 1949. Following graduation, he was employed as training supervisor for Bell Aircraft Corporation and later as Manager of Labor Relations for the Wurlitzer Company in North Tonawanda, NY. He then moved on to become Corporate Director of Industrial Relations for Beech-Nut Life Savers Corporation with headquarters in Canajoharie, NY. Robert spent the remainder of his working career as Managing Director of a trade association, the New York State Association of Electrical Contractors, Inc., with headquarters in Albany, NY. During his tenure in this position, he also managed the Albany and Western New York state chapters of the National Electrical Contractors Association. He retired in 1990 and moved to Stuart, FL, with his wife, the late Jeanne Hanrahan Biggane, who predeceased him in 1992.
Robert was an avid golfer and former member of Normanside Country Club in Delmar, NY, Springville CC in Springville, NY, Orchard Park CC in Orchard Park, NY, and Miles Grant CC in Stuart. Robert and Jeanne are survived by six children: Kathleen (Condon) of Schenectady, NY, Barry and Brian of Florida, Beth (Palma) of Warren, Ohio, Bonnie (Nuessle) of East Aurora, NY, and Brendan of Orchard Park, NY, and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Hobe Sound. Professional services by Veterans Cremation and Burial Society, 40 E. Osceola St., Stuart.
