(right triangle) In May 2006 Valerie Sellers-Kantrowitz received the Exceptional People Impacting the Community award from the Institute for Nursing, a foundation of the New Jersey State Nurses Association.
Sellers is senior vice president of health planning and research at the New Jersey Hospital Association, which represents more than 100 hospitals in the state. She joined NJHA in 1992 with her work focused on community health improvement, AIDS, tuberculosis, managed care, quality and patient safety, among other issues, over the course of her tenure. Sellers was also responsible for the "start-up" of major initiatives at NJHA such as its continuing care division, the Department of Emergency Preparedness and NJHA's Quality Institute.
A 1976 graduate of Ithaca High School, Sellers received a bachelor of science degree in industrial and labor relations in 1987 and a master of health administration in 1992 from Cornell University.
Before moving to New Jersey, Sellers worked at Cornell University for more than 10 years. She is the daughter of the late Antoinette N. Sellers and niece of Sue and Arthur Shanahan of Ithaca. She resides in Belle Mead, N.J., with her husband, Lawrence Kantrowitz and their son, Adam.
(right triangle) The Cornell University Police Department earned accolades for its commitment to professionalism and administrative excellence during the 48th annual conference of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators from June 24-27 in Orlando, Fla. On behalf of the Cornell Police, Chief Curtis S. Ostrander received the association's Award for Administrative Excellence.
