So it should be even less excusable that any teacher misses 11 or more days of school every year. Three decades of work by researchers such as the late James Bruno of University of California, Los Angeles, and Ronald Ehrenberg of Cornell University have determined, when teachers skip school, children bear the consequences, both in being taught by lower-quality substitute teachers and, ultimately, in skipping school themselves.
