HEADLINE: Assistant helps give kids voices
BYLINE: news-press.com
BODY:
Name: Lisa Zuck
Age: 49
Job: Program assistant, for Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida. Our program has two objectives:
* To recruit volunteers to become trained Guardians ad Litem so that every child who has been removed from the home due to abuse or neglect has a court and community advocate.
* In the event that other agencies or programs can't cover all the child's basic needs, VFK tries to provide additional resources through our Children's Programs which I oversee.
Personal: Raised in Warwick, N.Y. Graduated from Cornell University, with a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations.
In the near future: I would like to see Voices for Kids and the Guardians ad Litem receive more recognition for the incredible dedication and life saving value they provide to the abused, neglected and abandoned children of Southwest Florida. Children are our future. It is imperative that we recognize this.
Long-term goals: Become more involved in philanthropy while helping to make the fourth year of the VFK gala a major fundraising success. I also wish to see my children succeed in all their endeavors while continuing to help those less fortunate. Our dream would be to have the ability to start a foundation in their name that will help children who through no fault of their own have been left behind.
Hobbies, Interests, and activities: I love to cook, raised in an Italian family our lives frequently revolve around food, entertaining and a lot of creativity. I love to travel, read, go to the theater and art exhibitions. I also love cinema. I enjoy the outdoors and gardening and being out on a bicycle, or on the beach.
Family: Divorced with three children. Cristina, 22, graduated in June from Ohio University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Currently employed here in Southwest Florida at FOX 4. Max, 19, a sophomore at Ohio State, and Alexandra 15, attending the International Baccalaureate Program at Cape Coral High School. My parents who are originally from New York have resided in Fort Myers for 30 years and are a big part of our lives.
Last book read: "Giving" by Bill Clinton
Role model: My three children. When I need an answer they frequently seem to have it. Their kindness and freshness and ability to look at life with open eyes save me. They aren't jaded by some of the world events older people have been through and their answers are purer, less defensive and make a lot of sense to me. They have hope and give it to me.
Word of advice: Best way to succeed in life is to act on the advice we give to others.
