Twelve Leaguers Honored Academically

The first ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District teams have been announced by CoSIDA and the Ivy League has 12 men's and women's soccer players who have been honored, including six first-teamers who will advance to the national ballot.

The first team honorees included:

Dartmouth senior midfielder Nick Christman, a computer science and mathematics major with a 4.0 grade point average, is making his third appearance on the Academic All-District team. As a sophomore he made the second team and was a first-team selection as a junior before moving on to the national first team. Christman has started all 14 games to date in midfield for Dartmouth, recording two assists and helping the team to a 9-3-2 record.

Columbia senior defender Cathleen Cimino is an East Asian Studies major who has started all 15 games this season in the Lion backfield, spearheading a defense that has allowed less than a goal per game in 2007, including six shutouts. A four-year starter, Cimino played a vital role in Columbia's defense last season, when the Lions held opponents scoreless in 10 matches on their way to the Ivy League title.

Harvard junior forward Michael Fucito concentrates in psychology and is an active member of Harvard’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He is second on the team in scoring as a member of the Ivy League’s most prolific offense. So far this season he has tallied eight goals, five assists and 21 points. He has career totals of 19 goals and 17 assists.

Cornell senior forward Brian Kuritzky has scored 12 points on the season on five goals and two assists. He currently ranks second on the Big Red, two points behind sophomore Matt Bouraee, and tied for sixth in the Ivy League with his 1.00 points per game average. Kuritzky scored Cornell's first hat-trick since 2000 in helping the Big Red to a 4-1 win over IUPUI on Sept. 2. He was named to the all-tournament team at the UK Nike Soccer Classic in Lexington, Ky., after helping the Big Red to a pair of victories to open the season. His five goals are also tied for seventh in the Ivy League. His 12 points this season are triple his career total at Cornell entering the season. Kuritzky has a 3.61 grade point average in Industrial and Labor Relations.

Brown junior forward Dylan Sheehan is a a Commerce, Organizations & Entrepreneurship concentrator with a 3.62 GPA. He has played and started in all of the Bear's 14 games this season. Sheehan leads the team in scoring with eight goals and six assists for 22 points, and has scored three game-winning goals. He was named the Ivy League's Player of the Week on Sept. 10, was the adidas-Brown Soccer Classic Offensive MVP, and was also named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Oct. 14.

Cornell midfielder Aaron Vieira has helped to solidify the Big Red midfield this season. The senior from Brampton, Ontario, has yet to crack into the scoring column, but his play in the defensive midfield has helped slow opposing offenses. He was also named to the all-tournament team at the UK Nike Soccer Classic in Lexington, Ky., helping Cornell win an in-season tournament for the first time since 1983. Vieira has a 3.82 grade point average in Government.
