MLB announces hiring of Halem


Major League Baseball announced today that Daniel R. Halem has been hired as Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Labor. Halem replaces Frank Coonelly, who has been hired as the new President of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and will begin his new duties on Oct. 1.

Halem comes to Major League Baseball after serving as a partner in the Labor and Employment Law Department at the New York law firm Proskauer Rose LLC. Throughout his career at Proskauer, Halem represented employers in collective bargaining, arbitration and administrative proceedings as well as in state and federal litigations.

As a part of Proskauer Rose's Sports Law Group, Halem has counseled MLB on collective bargaining issues related to its players and umpires. Halem has also represented individual clubs in salary arbitration. In addition to his baseball experience, Halem has represented and counseled the National Basketball Association, the Women's National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and the New York Jets of the National Football League.

Halem graduated from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1988 and magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1991.
