Sep. 13--BRADENTON -- Bealls Inc. announced today that Evelyn Follit, formerly a top executive at Radio Shack and other firms, has joined its board of directors.

"We are excited to have Evelyn as part of our board of directors and welcome her insight and experience," said Steve Knopik, Bealls' chief executive officer. Follit's term begins in December, he added.

Follit operates Follit Associates, a corporate executive career strategies and executive coaching practice. Until February 2005, she was senior vice president -- chief organizational enabling services officer and chief information officer for RadioShack Corp. Previously, she held various leadership roles at A.C. Nielsen, Dun & Bradstreet, ITT and IBM.

In 2003, she was named one of the 50 most powerful people in retail I/T by "Executive Technology" magazine and in 2004 was named a co-recipient of the Society for Information Management's "CIO of the Year" award.

In addition to her corporate experience, Follit serves on the boards of Catalina Marketing Corp. and Winn-Dixie Stores Inc.

A native of New York City, Follit holds an M.B.A. degree in finance and information systems and a B.A. degree in mathematics. She has also completed executive planning, finance and technology programs at Cornell's School of Industrial and Labor Relations and MIT's Sloan School.

Bealls, Inc. with headquarters in Bradenton, is a privately-held company that operates more than 500 stores in 13 states under the names Bealls, Coastal Home by Bealls, Bealls Department Stores, Bealls Outlet, Burke's Outlet, Bealls Clearance Stores & Bealls Home Accents.
