HEADLINE: Your news: Sorority announces several scholarship winners

Theta Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, recently announced the recipients of its annual scholarship program.

Three of the award recipients are from Burlington County. Receiving $1,500 awards given to graduating high school seniors planning to further their education were the following:

Tanisha M. Prater, a Burlington County resident and graduate of Northern Burlington County Regional High School. Prater plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh (Pa.) as a Biology/Pre-Medicine major and a minor in Spanish. She was nominated to Who's Who of American High School Students, she is a People's Choice recipient at her high school and received a Silver Medal in the Delaware State Fair Poultry Competition.

Stephanie A. Murray, a Burlington County resident and graduate of Rancocas Valley Regional High School. Murray plans to attend Rutgers University in New Brunswick as a History/Political Science major with a concentration on International Relations. She is also a recipient of a Scholar-Athlete Award, Girl Scout Gold Award and served as Captain of the Varsity Girls Tennis Team. She is also the recipient of Rutgers Carr Scholarship and several other awards.

One award was given to a former high school recipient who is currently continuing her education in college. The Continuing Education Scholarship is valued at $1,000. The recipient was:

Ebony Ray, a Burlington County resident and sophomore at Cornell University majoring in Industrial and Labor Relations (alumnus of Rancocas Valley High School). Ray was a recipient of our high school award in 2006. She was a student representative to the Minority Industrial & Labor Relations Student Organization, where she served as project manager for on site volunteer services. During the 2006-2007 school year, Ray was awarded the Cornell Tradition Fellowship and was appointed Resident Advisor for the next school year. She has excelled academically and is on the dean's list.
