* The Chemung County Council of Women will salute its 2007 Women of Achievement on Thursday night at a dinner in Big Flats.

The women being honored are:

Norma Doane of the American Association of University Women, a retired Broadway Middle School English teacher and a former AAUW president.

Douglass Ann Ruble of the Chemung/Schuyler Municipal Clerks Association, a founding member of the association and a retired clerk in Big Flats.

Helen Knapp of the Church Women United of Chemung County, who retired at 80 and has been a strong supporter of local hunger relief efforts.

Pamela J. Mathes of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Alpha Rho Chapter, who spearheaded a regional conference for several chapters when she was president of the chapter.

Anna Miller of the Horseheads Woman's Club, a member since 1982 and president in 1986-87.

Frances B. Miller of the Elmira Corning Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, who teaches business administration at Corning Community College.

Helen Schuyler of the YWCA Elmira and the Twin Tiers, who will be honored posthumously. She was an artist and art teacher in the Corning-Painted Post school district.

Nancy G. Hooper of the Zonta Club of Elmira, a past president of Zonta.

Keynote speaker Risa L. Lieberwitz, a labor and employment law associate professor at Cornell University, will discuss the topic "Women's Equality in the Workplace: How Near or How Far?"

* Life coach Kathleen S. Richardson will hold two six-week series for women starting next month in Corning.

"Women Writing for Publication," aimed for aspiring writers, will run from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. on six straight Mondays starting April 2. The fee is $129 for the nine hours. Registration ends March 19.

"Women Crossing the Gap — Group 2," aimed at helping women clarify and pursue their dreams, will run from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. on six consecutive Wednesdays starting April 4. The fee is $129 and registration ends March 21.
