HAMBURG , N.Y. – Daniel Roland, professor of business administration and accounting at Hilbert College, has been chosen as a 2006 Pathfinder in recognition of the educational partnerships he’s developed with Hilbert students and with other Western New York educational institutions, as well as for the business relationships he’s forged with local organizations.
He will be honored with other Pathfinder winners at a reception from 4-6:30 p.m. May 11 in the Millenium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga.
Roland, who has taught at Hilbert since 1988, was the first recipient of the college’s Excellence in Service Award in recognition of his contributions to Hilbert and the community. A certified student leader by the National Conference on Student Services, he’s also received Hilbert’s Outstanding Contribution to Student Life Award and been named Advisor of the Year several times.
As founder of the Hilbert Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) organization, Roland has seen the team establish itself as a four-time SIFE regional champion and ranked as one of the top 16 SIFE teams in the country at last year’s national competition. The college honored Hilbert SIFE by naming it the 2005 Club of the Year. Also with SIFE, Roland earned the distinction as a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow.
In addition to SIFE, Roland is advisor to Hilbert’s Ski/Snowboard Club.
Outside Hilbert, Roland was recognized last year for his 20 years of service as a catechist in the religious education program at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Previously, he served for more than a decade as director of the Clarence Youth Center.
Roland earned an MBA from St. Bonaventure University and a master’s degree in business education and a bachelor’s degree in distributive education from Buffalo State College. He also holds a certificate of management development from Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations.
He resides in Newstead.
