HEADLINE: Paper industry magnate Peter Vogel to deliver keynote presentation

BODY:

APPLETON -- Peter H. Vogel Jr., a leading executive in the paper industry, will deliver the keynote presentation at the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame's 11th annual induction ceremony.
The event will be held Oct. 13 at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel, 333 W. College Ave.
Vogel is chief executive officer, president and member of the board of directors of NewPage Corp., formerly part of MeadWestvaco Corp. From 1992-97, he was president of Mead's Gilbert Paper Division in Appleton.
Vogel's strong ties to the paper industry in the Fox Cities region through his previous roles with the board of directors at Fox River Paper, and his accomplished career with MeadWestvaco, based in Stamford, Conn., made him the top choice to headline this year's ceremonies, said Valerie Wylie, executive director for the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame.
In addition to Vogel's speech, six honorees will be inducted into the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame. The 2005 class of inductees will be announced later this month, Wylie said. Currently, there are 64 members in the hall housed within the Paper Discovery Center, 425 W. Water St.
Vogel first joined Mead Corp. in 1980, most recently serving as president of the MeadWestvaco Papers Group of MeadWestvaco Corp. since 2004. He also served as interim chief financial officer for MeadWestvaco Corp. Before that, he was vice president of corporate services for MeadWestvaco Corp., a position he held since Mead Corp. and Westvaco Corp. merged in 2002.
Before the merger, Vogel served in various capacities at Mead Corp., including vice president of finance and treasurer, vice president of business affairs and vice president of purchasing and logistics.
Vogel holds a bachelor's degree in industrial and labor relations and a master's degree in business administration from Cornell University.
