American Arbitration Association and Cornell University Publish Labor Arbitration Book

The American Arbitration Association issued the following news release:

The American Arbitration Association (AAA), the world's leading provider of conflict management and dispute resolution services, recently released a new labor-arbitration focused book co-published by the AAA and Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations, Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution. Written by Jay E. Grenig, a law professor at Marquette University, and Rocco M. Scanza, executive director of the Scheinman Institute on Conflict Resolution, Fundamentals of Labor Arbitration is the successor to the seminal primer, Labor Arbitration: What You Need to Know, which the AAA published for 30 years.

Fundamentals of Labor Arbitration provides essential information to better understand how labor disputes are re-solved using arbitration. It was written as a resource for advocates, union and management representatives, labor rela-tions professionals, arbitrators, government representatives, students, and academics.

Organized in 10 chapters, the book covers the following areas:

The labor arbitration process, why labor disputes end up in arbitration, and the different types of arbitration;

The practical aspects of initiating arbitration, including selecting an arbitrator, conducting a factual investigation, and interviewing witnesses;

Planning the hearing and other procedural matters;

The work of labor arbitrators and the principles they use to interpret labor agreements;

The arbitration award, including interim and final awards; and

Labor arbitration in the public sector.

Fundamentals of Labor Arbitration is the initial publishing collaborative effort of the AAA and the Scheinman In-stitute and is the first of a three-book series. The book may be ordered through the AAA University Bookstore on the AAA's website at www.adr.org.
