Sullivan named to state labor panel

WALLINGFORD - Governor M. Jodi Rell announced today that Terence Sullivan, the town's personnel director, has been appointed to the State Board of Mediation and Arbitration.

Sullivan, a Persian Gulf War veteran who served in the Connecticut National Guard for 20 years, earning an Honorable Discharge in 1996, has worked for the town since 1995. He earned a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of Hartford and also holds certificates in Contract Administration, Collective Bargaining Studies and Human Resources Studies from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations.

The board of meditation and arbitration provides mediation services of grievances and contracts in the public and private sector and also arbitrates disputes over the application or interpretation of the terms of a written collective bargaining agreement.

"This board aims to preserve jobs in Connecticut by maintaining peaceful employer/employee relations and promoting equity labor management by resolving labor disputes," Rell said in a release. "Terence will be an excellent addition to this panel. He has many years of experience and expertise, and I thank him for his willingness to serve."

Sullivan will serve for a term ending Feb. 18, 2010, or until a successor is appointed and has qualified, whichever is longer.
