Ingersoll-Rand Company Limited (NYSE:IR) announced today that Marcia J. Avedon has joined the company as senior vice president, human resources and communications. She also has been elected an officer of the company and will serve as a member of Ingersoll Rand's Enterprise Leadership Team. Avedon will have responsibility for the enterprise human resources function and for corporate communications, and will have a shared accountability for the company's business-sector human resources and communications.
Avedon will report directly to Herbert L. Henkel, chairman, president and chief executive officer, and is based at the firm's corporate offices in Montvale, New Jersey.

Avedon began her career with Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Inc., consulting in areas including selection, performance management, compensation and employee opinion research. After six years as a management consultant, she joined Anheuser-Busch Companies and held a variety of human resources and organization development positions, both in corporate and division roles.
Avedon joined Honeywell International (formerly AlliedSignal) in 1995 in the Engineered Materials sector as the head of organization and leadership development, and progressed to vice president, human resources and communications, Performance Polymers & Chemicals. She also led the merger integration team to successfully combine Honeywell and AlliedSignal employee compensation and recognition programs.
Avedon left Honeywell in 2002 as vice president, corporate human resources, to join Merck & Co. as vice president, talent management and organization effectiveness. In 2003, Avedon became senior vice president, human resources, at Merck, where she had company-wide responsibilities for all human resource strategy, programs and policies. Avedon also served as a board member for Lincoln National Corporation and is the board president for a non-profit agency, Jersey Battered Women's Services.
Avedon holds an M.Phil., and a Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology from George Washington University, as well as a B.A. in psychology from the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. She also has been on the advisory boards for Cornell University's Center for Advanced Human Resources Studies and Rutgers' Executive Master in Human Resources Leadership program.
