BODY:
The Cornell University College of Industrial and Labor Relations issued the following news release:
In September, officials, correctional officers and civilian personnel affiliated with the three Special Needs Units of the New York State Department of Corrections descended on the ILR School to engage in a two-day learning community hosted by the Employment and Disability Institute sponsored by the New York State Developmental Disabilities Planning Council (DDPC) in collaboration with the Department of Corrections and Division of Parole.
The learning community was part of a five-year research demonstration funded by the DDPC being undertaken by the Department of Corrections and Cornell's Employment and Disability Institute to effect positive post-incarceration outcomes for inmates with developmental disability as they transition from inmate to citizen. The research demonstration, utilizing person-centered technologies and the Framework for Planning [(c) Blessing and Ferrell, 2004], seeks to create a seamless service delivery system within Corrections that integrates comprehensive assessment and planning, rehabilitation and treatment and discharge planning.
