Lenovo gets new vice presidents
Lenovo Group has appointed two new executives: Kenneth DiPietro as senior vice president of human resources and Rory Read as senior vice president of operations.
Both men will report directly to CEO William Amelio and work out of the computer company's headquarters in Research Triangle Park.
Before joining Lenovo, DiPietro, 47, was a full-time human resources consultant to the Lenovo executive staff. From 2003 to 2005, he served as vice president of human resources at Microsoft. He also has led human resources in the Americas for Dell and internationally for PepsiCo. DiPietro holds a bachelor's degree in industrial and labor relations from Cornell University.
Read, 44, comes to Lenovo after a 23-year career at IBM, where his leadership roles focused on transforming organizations into Internet-focused businesses. Most recently, he served as managing partner for the global industrial sector of IBM's business consulting services. He holds a bachelor's degree in information systems from Hartwick College.
Lenovo, the world's third-largest personal computer company, bought IBM's PC division last year. It has 1,500 employees in the Triangle, which became its headquarters this year, and major operations in Beijing.

Melissa D. Brumback, a lawyer in the litigation department at law firm Ragsdale Liggett in Raleigh, has become a member of the firm.
Chad Culver joined Stephenson General Contractors of Smithfield as an assistant construction manager.
David R. Ford joined law firm Hutchens, Senter & Britton as an associate. He will work from the firm's Raleigh office.
Sherri Foster has been promoted to senior vice president and director of Scienta Healthcare Education in Durham.
Robert D. Bartos has been appointed director of marketing for the Carolinas division of DeVere Construction Co. He will work from the Apex office.
Jonathan Taylor has been named Raleigh city executive at Crescent State Bank. He will work from the office on Six Forks Road and will also manage the office on Falls of the Neuse Road.
Jim Veno was appointed senior vice president, retail market manager for the Wake County region at Gateway Bank & Trust.
Kara Saunders has joined MarketSmart Advertising in Raleigh as a media assistant. Ginny Lam was hired as project coordinator in Bright Ideas Studios, the audiovisual production house at MarketSmart.
William D. Smith was named sales manager of the mid-Atlantic agency of John Hancock, an insurance and investment company in Raleigh.
Paul Stock, executive vice president and counsel of the N.C. Bankers Association, has been elected president of HopeLine, the Triangle's 24-hour crisis and suicide prevention hotline.
Jessica O'Mahony joined French/West/Vaughan in Raleigh as account supervisor supporting the Triangle Transit Authority, Coca-Cola and Pfizer accounts. Tess Hussey joined as account executive supporting various health-care accounts.
Eric J. Freedman was hired as global market specialist at Captrust, a financial advisory firm in Raleigh.
Dianne Baker joined Chase Properties as the sales associate for Churchill Estates, a custom home community in Cary.
Michael C. Pinell has been appointed to vice president of medical affairs for the hospital division at Sterling Healthcare, a hospital-based physician management service in Durham. Kristine-Marie Kuzenski was appointed senior risk manager, and Mary Ellen Haynes was named corporate compliance officer in the Durham office.
Debbie A. Litsey and Roger Kenney joined Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston's real estate division in Cary as new sales agents.

Maria C. Richter, owner of MCHR Consulting and Wilfred "Bill" A. Finnegan, an independent consultant and former senior adviser to the Carlyle Group, were named to The Pantry's board of directors.
Senior Pharmassist, a nonprofit medication assistance program for Durham seniors, added six members to its board of directors: Gary N. Greenberg, Gael Hallenbeck, Brenda D. Jamerson, Kenneth E. Schmader, Margaret Smith and Hugo Sotolongo.
Communities in Schools of Wake has new board members: Annie Harvey, warden of the N.C. Correctional Institute for Women and Bill Bunn, regional president for RBC Centura. The executive committee for 2006-2007 includes: Gregg McDougal of Kilpatrick Stockton as chairman; Mark Larson of Grant Thornton as first vice chairman; Elizabeth McGee of AppleGold as second vice chairwoman; Mike Williams of Progress Energy as treasurer; community volunteer Patsy Williams as secretary; Jimmy Talton of Captrust and community volunteer Nikki Mercer as co-chairmen of the Resource Development Committee; Michael Olander of AppleGold as past chairman and Susan B. Hansell as president.
Snow C. Roche, patient accounts manager at Wilson Medical Center, was elected president-elect of the state chapter of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Ann Jagger, a partner in Raleigh-based Homes in Motion, was named vice president of the National Association of Professional Organizers' state chapter.
