HEADLINE: DON'T FORGET WOMEN'S ROLE IN LABOR VICTORIES

BODY:
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to Ms. Katie Barrett's letter, "Union's downfall is everyone's downfall." I agree wholeheartedly, with the one exception. In the text of her letter she states that "Men fought and died for those rights that you and I take for granted." She also suggested that Mr. Rebeck read up on what life was like before unions.
Well, I have read, and I suggest that Ms. Barrett, Mr. Rebeck and anyone else interested research the important roles that women have played in the labor movement.
For example, the New York City shirtwaist strike of 1909-1910, the General Motors sit-down strike of 1936-1937, and more recently and locally, the Syracuse Hotel strike of 1988.
