Who: The United Steelworkers (USW) will participate in an international
planning conference of scholars and trade unionists hosted by The School
of Industrial and Labor Relations of Cornell University
. The conference
includes union organizers, researchers, and comprehensive campaign
specialists.

What: The conference will bring together a wide range of organizers,
researchers, and comprehensive campaign specialists from the labor
movement, as well as scholars from around the globe who study
multinational companies and multinational campaigns to:

- Share and learn from recent union initiatives in strategic corporate
research and strategic global organizing and bargaining campaigns in
order to more effectively take on multinational companies through
global comprehensive campaigns.

- Expand our collective knowledge and understanding of the changing
nature of corporate ownership structures, practices, and strategies
for the world's largest multinationals.

- Lay the groundwork for building a sustainable global network of
unions and academics to continue to work together to effectively
engage multinational corporations worldwide.

Where: The Crowne Plaza Hotel, Times Square, located at 1605 Broadway
and 49th Street in downtown Manhattan, New York City.

When: February 9-11, 2006.

Special Tribute: Former USW President George Becker will receive a
special recognition on Friday evening for his contributions during the
1994-95 global campaign to win a labor agreement with the Bridgestone-
Firestone Company at five U.S. locations.
