Katrina lectures set to continue Tuesday
ITHACA - Another community forum on Katrina's effects is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday, with Mark Wysocki to speak on "Agriculture & Sustainability" at The History Center, 410 E. State St. Each event is free and open to the public.
Wysocki, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Cornell University, will speak on "Predicting Disaster." How can we apply historical perspective to our understanding of current natural disasters? What have we learned from hurricanes big and small, such as Galveston in 1900, New England in 1936, and others? How has the science of weather prediction played a role in the storms of the past and the way humans have responded?
Faith Rogow, Ph.D., Insighters Educational Consulting and Bruce Estes, Managing Editor, The Ithaca Journal, will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, on "Multiple Media Perspectives." What has been the role of the media in shaping our understanding and our response to the disaster? Are we getting the information we really need? How much does our local response depend on the information we receive from the media?
