Chambliss Picks Ag Director. Senate Agriculture Chairman Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) has named Martha Scott Poindexter as staff director for that panel.
Poindexter has a history with the chairman; she first was on his staff during his freshman term in the House of Representatives, serving as Chambliss' senior legislative assistant for agriculture and natural resources. From 1997 to 2001, she served as a staff member on several subcommittees before spending the past two years as director of government relations for Monsanto in Washington, D.C.
In her new role Poindexter will be responsible for the legislative and administrative activities of the committee. She hails from Morgan City, Miss., and graduated from Mississippi State University with a bachelor's degree in 1989.
Manning to Head Democratic Highways Staff [see correction at end of story]. Rep. James Oberstar (D-Minn.) appointed Stephanie Manning, 30, as a senior policy adviser to the Democratic staff of the Transportation and Infrastructure subcommittee on highways, transit and pipelines.
Manning has spent the past four years working for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, including three as the director of federal relations for the public awareness group. Previously, she has worked with
Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety and the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks.
Manning is originally from Albany, N.Y., and received a bachelor's from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1996.
Davis Office Changes. Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R-Va.) has made several personnel changes to her Washington, D.C., office over the past month.
Andrew Hicks, 26, has joined Davis' office as her legislative assistant for issues pertaining to the military, veterans and NASA. As a former Naval officer, and with service in both Iraq and Afghanistan under his belt, Hicks has plenty of experience with his issues.
Hicks hails from Dothan, Ala. He earned a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in 2000.
Jenny Stein, 24, has been promoted from legislative correspondent to scheduler and office manager. The Spotsylvania, Va.,native served in Davis' district office before joining the Washington, D.C., staff.
Stein graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's in foreign affairs and history in 2002. While a Cavalier, Stein interned for Davis' predecessor, Rep. Herb Bateman (R).
Another veteran of Davis' Fredericksburg office, Lauren Ridenour, joined the Washington staff late last year. She came on board as a legislative correspondent. A native of Fredericksburg, the 22-year-old graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2004 with a bachelor's in governmental administration.
Amanda Meadows, 23, has joined the office as a staff assistant. Formerly an intern for the Representative, Meadows also graduated from Christopher Newport University in 2004; she received her bachelor's in political science. Another native of Davis' district, Meadows is originally from Stafford, Va.
